The Folio or The Modern: Choosing an Alcantara Case for iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo folds, and that changes what a case has to do. There are two halves, a hinge between them, a cover display on the outside and the large display inside. We made two cases for it, each with a different idea of what to cover. Here is how they differ, and which one suits the way you use the phone.
The Folio
The Folio closes over the phone like a book. The shell holds the camera half, and the cover folds across the front to rest against the outer display. It is Alcantara inside and out, so the side that meets the glass is as soft as the side in your hand. Inside the cover is a slot for one card, the one you reach for most.
MagSafe is built into the back of the shell, and that side stays fixed in place, so chargers and mounts attach whether the cover is open or closed.
The Folio is for someone who wants the phone covered when it is put away and a card along with it. It comes in Black Caviar and Sand. $129.
The Modern
The Modern is an Alcantara back case. It wraps the back of the phone, with a framed cutout around the lenses, and a slim black frame for the front comes in the box. The hinge and the cover display stay open, so the phone folds and unfolds as it does on its own, and the outer screen is always there for a quick glance.
The frame is yours to use or leave off. With it, both halves are held. Without it, the Alcantara back alone is the lightest the Duo can be dressed. MagSafe is built in either way.
The Modern is the everyday case, for someone who wants the Duo to feel like the Duo with a better surface under their fingers. Five colors: Black Caviar, British Racing Green, Midnight Blue, Sand and Bordeaux. $89.
Which one
Choose The Folio if you want the cover display protected and a card inside. Choose The Modern if you reach for the outer screen all day and want the thinnest case the phone can wear. Both are made for iPhone Duo, both have MagSafe built in, and both are wrapped in the same material.
The material
Alcantara is the Italian-engineered material used in Ferrari and Lamborghini interiors. It has the feel of suede and none of its fragility: water-resistant, stain-resistant, and made to keep its look through daily handling. A folding phone is picked up, opened and set down more than any other. That is where the material shows.

Which color goes with a Star White or Night Sky iPhone Duo?
Sand sits with Star White, on either case. Midnight Blue, on The Modern, sits with Night Sky. The other colors work with both finishes.
Do I have to use the front frame on The Modern?
No. The Alcantara back is a case on its own. The frame adds cover for the front half when you want it, and it seats with a thin adhesive liner, so fit it once you have decided.
Does MagSafe work with The Folio closed?
Yes. The magnets are in the back of the shell, which stays in place whether the cover is open or closed.
Does the Luriax MagSafe Wallet fit the Duo cases?
No. The wallet is sized for the flat-backed iPhone lines. Chargers and mounts attach to both Duo cases as they always have.
